Apply for a Master’s Program

You may apply up to a year in advance of the time at which you plan to begin your master’s studies.

In choosing your starting term, you’ll want to keep in mind that the master’s program takes approximately 10-12 months to complete. Students take courses in fall and spring semesters as well as summer terms. The following starting terms are available as options in the application process: Fall Semester, Winter Intersession, Spring Semester, May Intersession, Full Summer Term (includes First Summer Term and Second Summer Term), and August Intersession.

Admission Requirements

Requirements for full admission to a master’s program include completion of the required prerequisite courses (and minimum grades where applicable), a minimum GPA of 3.0, and a minimum GMAT score of 450 unless you qualify for a GMAT waiver.

Beginning with applicants for Summer 2022, the GMAT will be waived for Patterson School of Accountancy undergraduates who earn an overall or resident GPA of 3.0 or higher and for undergraduate accounting majors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher from other AACSB-accredited institutions. However, the GMAT is required for all students who wish to be considered for a PSOA graduate assistantship. For students who will submit a GMAT score in the application process for summer or fall, taking the GMAT no later than winter break is strongly recommended. For students who will submit a GMAT score in the application process for spring, taking the GMAT no later than summer is recommended. We ask students who do not meet the GPA requirement for a GMAT waiver to make up to three attempts if needed to achieve the minimum score of 450 required for admission. Students are strongly encouraged to share all GMAT scores earned with the PSOA.

If you are an accounting major at the University of Mississippi or at another institution that has separate accounting accreditation by AACSB International, completion of Income Tax I and Auditing (or equivalent courses) with grades of C or above is required.

If you are accounting major in a program that does not have separate accounting accreditation by AACSB or if you majored in a field of study other than accounting, successful completion of these undergraduate courses is required: Financial (Intermediate) Accounting I and II, Cost Control, Auditing (grade of C or higher required), Income Tax I (grade of C or higher required), Business Law, Principles of Economics I and II, Economic Statistics I and II, Legal Environment of Business, Management Principles, Marketing Principles, Business Calculus, and Business Finance. If a required course is not available at your undergraduate institution, then you may take the course at the University of Mississippi.

International students from countries other than those on the Office of Global Engagement exemption list are required to submit documentation of English language proficiency.

Students who do not meet the minimum requirements for admission may be considered for admission in another category.
